Jason DuMouchel
I was born in Tampa, Florida in 1970.
I began painting and drawing in high school while also pursuing an interest in the theater.  After high school I decided to attend NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for theater in the fall of 1988.  After my first year, I decided to change my focus from acting to painting and after a brief break from school enrolled at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.  I graduated from Skidmore in 1994.  In 1998, I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where I now live with my wife Mignon and three boys; Gryphon 3, Sebastian 5 and Jackson 16.
Although my primary focus in painting and drawing has always been people these paintings of birds are from my current series in progress entitled “Fly”.  The bird paintings started as somewhat of a whim several years ago as I was trying to find some different subject matter in between shows.  Initially I thought the birds would be too “cute” of a subject for me.  However, I soon realized how bizarre and expressive they can be. I received a good bit of positive response to the first birds that I did and decided to pursue it further. The birds have now begun to embody the feelings, fears, dreams and characteristics of myself and of those around me.  These are the first oils in the series.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
