Terri Garland
TERRI GARLAND is a photographer whose work explores the world of socio-political events and cultural conflicts. She photographs primarily in the South. Investigating and pursuing with curiosity the social landscape of the southern states, she is drawn to explore those elements that combine to shape and color our perceptions of a particular area. Since 2005, she has spent extended periods photographing destroyed neighborhoods and the displaced residents who survived hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Her work has been exhibited at the Alan Klotz Gallery in New York, Basel-Miami, the Noorderlict Festival in the Netherlands and the Voies Off exhibition at the Arles, France Photo Festival. She holds a BFA and a MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Among her awards are a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, an Arts Silicon Valley photography fellowship and a Rydell Visual Arts Fellowship. Her current work consists of portraits and interviews of Gulf residents affected by the BP oil spill.
